Plate material: Zinc alloy (cast)
What’s the difference?

Brass plates are the standard: cut and engraved to the design, then finished by hand. Brass is dense and hard, so the belt feels solid in the hand. Cast zinc alloy plates are made in a mould cut for your design, then finished by hand. Casting allows deeper 3D relief than engraving, and zinc alloy takes plating well. The extra cost covers the mould and the hand-finishing. Brass or cast zinc alloy plates

Finish: 24K gold plated
What’s the difference?

24K gold electroplating puts a thin layer of real gold on the surface of the plates. The belt is not solid gold. Like any plating, the gold layer can wear if it is rubbed against something abrasive. The standard finish has no gold layer. Gold electroplating explained

Plate thickness: 4 mm
What’s the difference?

This is how thick the metal plates are. 2 mm is included. Each extra millimetre, up to 5 mm, adds the same amount, shown on each choice. Thicker plates allow deeper relief in the design, so details stand out more, and they weigh more. Plate thickness explained

About this design

WCW renamed the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship as its own title in 1991. This listing is MS Belts' made-to-order replica of the five-plate belt with an eagle over a map of the United States, shown in bright polished gold on a black strap. The page opens on the build closest to the real belt, and every choice shows its price.

About the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship

Wikipedia says the title began as the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship, introduced on 1 January 1975 in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, with Harley Race as the first champion. WCW renamed it the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship in 1991, when the page says WCW was pulling away from the NWA.

Ric Flair has the most reigns with six, and Lex Luger has the longest reign, 523 days, from 22 May 1989 to 27 October 1990.

Design details

  • Centre plate: a stepped gold plate topped by a WCW logo, with a black "United States" banner over a map of the contiguous states in red, white and blue enamel, held by an eagle with spread wings. A black "Heavyweight Wrestling Champion" ribbon crosses the foot.
  • Wrestler plates: two, each with a WCW logo above two wrestlers grappling in a laurel wreath.
  • Flag plates: two, each an enamelled US flag between "United" and "States".
  • Strap: black leather with a scalloped embossed border, a gold snap panel at one end and a gold WCW plate at the other.

The real belt and commercial replicas

Wikipedia describes the 1991 to 1995 WCW belt as five plates: a centre plate with a map of the contiguous United States, a flag and an eagle on a gold background, and side plates with a US flag and two wrestlers grappling. That matches our photos plate for plate. It names no maker, and we found no commercial replica with published specifications. Our closest build is zinc alloy (cast), 24K gold plated, 4 mm, which is what this page shows first.

How we make it

  • Plates: choose brass (standard, cut and engraved then hand finished) or cast zinc alloy (+$100, poured in a mould made for the design, then hand finished, with deeper 3D relief).
  • Finish: standard or 24K gold plated for +$20. The gold is a thin electroplated layer on the plate surface, not a solid gold belt.
  • Thickness: 2 mm comes with the base build. Go up to 5 mm at +$50 per extra millimetre.
  • Strap: cowhide leather, about 50–51 in (127–130 cm), fastened with snaps in several positions. Any size from kids to jumbo, and any strap colour, can be quoted by email.
  • Made to order: check the delivery estimate on this page.
  • Shipping: free worldwide courier (UPS, FedEx or DHL), tracked, with import duties prepaid (DDP).
  • Warranty: lifetime on plating, hardware and stitching.

Questions

Questions about this belt

What do the side plates show?

Two show wrestlers grappling in a laurel wreath, and two show an enamelled US flag. Wikipedia describes the same pairing for the 1991 to 1995 belt.

Which build looks closest to the real belt?

Cast zinc alloy, 24K gold plated, 4 mm, which this page shows first. Cast plates give the eagle and wrestlers deeper relief.

Can you add my name to the plates?

Yes. Custom name plates and engraving are quoted by email at support@msbelts.com.

The three choices, in short

Three choices about the plates decide how the belt looks, how it feels in the hand and what it costs.

  • Plate material

The plates are the metal parts on the front of the belt. Brass plates are the standard: cut and engraved to the design, then finished by hand. Brass is dense and hard, so the belt feels solid. Cast zinc alloy plates are made in a mould and finished by hand, for deeper 3D relief.

Brass plates are included. Cast zinc alloy plates add $100.

  • Finish

24K real-gold electroplating is a thin layer of real gold on the surface of the plates. The belt is not solid gold, and the standard finish has no gold layer.

    24K real-gold electroplating adds $20.

    Gold electroplating explained
  • Plate thickness

Thickness is how thick the metal plates are, in millimetres. 2 mm is included, and you can go up to 5 mm. Thicker plates allow deeper relief in the design and weigh more.

2 mm is included. Each extra millimetre adds $50, up to 5 mm.

How this belt is made

Every belt goes through 7 or 8 phases in our workshop, depending on the build. For a cast belt, casting in a mould takes the place of cutting. Gold electroplating happens only when you choose it or when it is included.

Under normal conditions, most belts are finished in 5–6 working days. For a custom design, the clock starts when you approve the design.

  1. Phase 1: Design and artwork

  2. Phase 2: Cutting the plates

  3. Phase 3: Engraving and detailing

  4. Phase 4: Polishing

  5. Phase 5: Gold electroplating When 24K gold electroplating is chosen or included

  6. Phase 6: Colour filling

Short answers about this belt, delivery and returns.

All questions and answers

How long does a belt take?

Under normal conditions most belts are made in 5–6 working days, then delivered by courier in up to 5 working days, anywhere in the world. For a custom design, the clock starts when you approve the design. These are estimates, not guarantees.

Is shipping free?

Yes. Every order ships free worldwide by courier (UPS, FedEx or DHL) with tracking.

We prepay import duties (DDP), so there are no customs charges to pay on delivery.

What are the plates made of?

Brass is the standard plate metal. On custom belts the SD build has brass plates cut and engraved to the design, the CNC build has brass plates CNC-machined for finer detail, and the HD build has zinc alloy plates cast in a mould made for the design and finished by hand, for the deepest 3D relief. On catalogue belts, cast zinc alloy is +$100. Plates are 2 mm thick as standard, and 3, 4 or 5 mm add $50 for each extra millimetre. The strap is cowhide leather.

Is 24K gold electroplating real gold?

Yes, it is a thin layer of real 24K gold on the surface of the plates. The belt is not solid gold, and like any plating it can wear if it is rubbed against something abrasive.

Will the belt fit?

The strap is about 50 to 51 inches (127 to 130 cm) long with a snap closure and several snap positions. That is the length of the whole strap, not a waist size. Email us the wearer's measurement and we will confirm the fit before you order.

Can I put my own names or logo on a belt?

Yes. Name plate engraving can be added on belt pages that offer it. For a logo or a fully custom design, use the belt builder or email support@msbelts.com for a quote. Nothing is made until you approve the design.
