Plate material: Zinc alloy (cast)
What’s the difference?

Brass plates are the standard: cut and engraved to the design, then finished by hand. Brass is dense and hard, so the belt feels solid in the hand. Cast zinc alloy plates are made in a mould cut for your design, then finished by hand. Casting allows deeper 3D relief than engraving, and zinc alloy takes plating well. The extra cost covers the mould and the hand-finishing. Brass or cast zinc alloy plates

Finish: 24K gold plated
What’s the difference?

24K gold electroplating puts a thin layer of real gold on the surface of the plates. The belt is not solid gold. Like any plating, the gold layer can wear if it is rubbed against something abrasive. The standard finish has no gold layer. Gold electroplating explained

Plate thickness: 4 mm
What’s the difference?

This is how thick the metal plates are. 2 mm is included. Each extra millimetre, up to 5 mm, adds the same amount, shown on each choice. Thicker plates allow deeper relief in the design, so details stand out more, and they weigh more. Plate thickness explained

About this design

The NWA Western States Heavyweight Championship was the top title of the NWA's Amarillo, Texas territory. This listing is MS Belts' made-to-order replica of a gold design with a red oval and a raised fist at its centre. The page opens on the build closest to the real belt, and every choice shows its price.

About the NWA Western States Heavyweight Championship

Wikipedia places the title with Western States Sports in Amarillo. It was established in 1969, replacing Amarillo's version of the NWA North American Heavyweight Championship, and Dory Funk Sr. is listed as its first champion on 12 June 1969.

Terry Funk holds the record with 12 reigns, Ciclón Negro had seven and Bob Backlund four. The title was retired in 1981 when the promotion closed. NWA Vendetta Pro Wrestling revived it in 2015 and retired it again on 8 September 2017.

Design details

  • Centre plate: a gold plate with NWA lettering at the top, a "Western States" banner, and "Heavyweight" across a red oval holding a raised fist and a wrestler figure on a navy field. "Wrestling" and "Champion" run below, inside scrolled edges.
  • Side plates: four rectangular gold plates in navy arch frames, each with an ornamental knot at the foot. They show wrestlers, two with a crown emblem and two with a small red emblem.
  • Strap: black leather with a scalloped, embossed border and an embossed end panel with rows of gold studs.

The real belt and commercial replicas

Wikipedia says the 2015 revival used the same belt design as the Western States Heritage Championship of 1987 to 1989, but it names no maker and does not describe the design. We found no commercial replica with published specifications, so this build follows our photographs. Our closest build is zinc alloy (cast), 24K gold plated, 4 mm, which is what this page shows first.

How we make it

  • Plates: standard brass plates are cut and engraved to the design and finished by hand. Cast zinc alloy (+$100) comes from a mould made for the design, takes plating well and shows deeper relief.
  • Finish: standard or 24K gold plated (+$20). The gold is an electroplated surface layer, so the belt is not solid gold.
  • Thickness: 2 mm included, then +$50 for each extra millimetre up to 5 mm.
  • Strap: cowhide leather, about 50–51 in (127–130 cm), snap closure with several positions. Kids to jumbo sizes and other strap colours are quoted by email.
  • Made to order: see the delivery estimate on this page.
  • Shipping: free worldwide courier (UPS, FedEx or DHL) with tracking. We prepay import duties (DDP).
  • Warranty: lifetime on plating, hardware and stitching.

Questions

Questions about this belt

Which Western States belt is this?

Wikipedia does not describe the belts, so we have not matched our photos to one version. Compare them with the belt you have in mind before you order.

Which build looks closest to the photos?

Cast zinc alloy, 24K gold plated, 4 mm, which this page shows first. The photos show bright gold with red and navy colour fill, and cast plates give deeper relief to the scrollwork and wrestler figures.

Can you add my name to the plates?

Yes. Custom name plates and engraving are quoted by email at support@msbelts.com.

Independent replica. MS Belts is not affiliated with, licensed by or endorsed by NWA or any other promotion. Names are used only to describe the design.

The three choices, in short

Three choices about the plates decide how the belt looks, how it feels in the hand and what it costs.

  • Plate material

The plates are the metal parts on the front of the belt. Brass plates are the standard: cut and engraved to the design, then finished by hand. Brass is dense and hard, so the belt feels solid. Cast zinc alloy plates are made in a mould and finished by hand, for deeper 3D relief.

Brass plates are included. Cast zinc alloy plates add $100.

  • Finish

24K real-gold electroplating is a thin layer of real gold on the surface of the plates. The belt is not solid gold, and the standard finish has no gold layer.

    24K real-gold electroplating adds $20.

    Gold electroplating explained
  • Plate thickness

Thickness is how thick the metal plates are, in millimetres. 2 mm is included, and you can go up to 5 mm. Thicker plates allow deeper relief in the design and weigh more.

2 mm is included. Each extra millimetre adds $50, up to 5 mm.

How this belt is made

Every belt goes through 7 or 8 phases in our workshop, depending on the build. For a cast belt, casting in a mould takes the place of cutting. Gold electroplating happens only when you choose it or when it is included.

Under normal conditions, most belts are finished in 5–6 working days. For a custom design, the clock starts when you approve the design.

Questions

Questions before you order

Short answers about this belt, delivery and returns.

All questions and answers

How long does a belt take?

Under normal conditions most belts are made in 5–6 working days, then delivered by courier in up to 5 working days, anywhere in the world. For a custom design, the clock starts when you approve the design. These are estimates, not guarantees.

Is shipping free?

Yes. Every order ships free worldwide by courier (UPS, FedEx or DHL) with tracking.

We prepay import duties (DDP), so there are no customs charges to pay on delivery.

What are the plates made of?

Brass is the standard plate metal. On custom belts the SD build has brass plates cut and engraved to the design, the CNC build has brass plates CNC-machined for finer detail, and the HD build has zinc alloy plates cast in a mould made for the design and finished by hand, for the deepest 3D relief. On catalogue belts, cast zinc alloy is +$100. Plates are 2 mm thick as standard, and 3, 4 or 5 mm add $50 for each extra millimetre. The strap is cowhide leather.

Is 24K gold electroplating real gold?

Yes, it is a thin layer of real 24K gold on the surface of the plates. The belt is not solid gold, and like any plating it can wear if it is rubbed against something abrasive.

Will the belt fit?

The strap is about 50 to 51 inches (127 to 130 cm) long with a snap closure and several snap positions. That is the length of the whole strap, not a waist size. Email us the wearer's measurement and we will confirm the fit before you order.

Can I put my own names or logo on a belt?

Yes. Name plate engraving can be added on belt pages that offer it. For a logo or a fully custom design, use the belt builder or email support@msbelts.com for a quote. Nothing is made until you approve the design.
