The WWE Cruiserweight Championship was established in 2001 following WWE's acquisition of WCW, recognising wrestlers under 225 lbs. Champions including Rey Mysterio, Tajiri, Billy Kidman, and Spike Dudley used the cruiserweight division to deliver some of SmackDown's most exciting matches.
